This is Associate Head Coach Jay Nebel's fourth season at Norcross High School. In his first three years at Norcross, he has worked as associate head coach under Head Coach Angie Hembree and has contributed to the improvement seen in the varsity program. Three years ago, Norcross achieved its first winning record in recent memory, in 2008-2009, the program earned its first state tournament berth in 10 years, and last year Norcross Lady Blue achieved its first AAAAA state title.
Prior to joining Hembree at Norcross, Nebel spent the previous 3 seasons as an assistant with the Collins Hill Lady Eagles Program in Suwanee, GA. Here, Nebel was a part of 3 consecutive state championship teams.
In addition to these 3 years on the Collins Hill staff, Nebel headed both the girls and boys programs at Creekland Middle School, the feeder school for Collins Hill. In seven years as the girls coach, Nebel's teams amassed an overall record of 70-15. His girls won 4 regular season Gwinnett County titles, and appeared in 5 consecutive county championship games, winning 2 of them. In the 4 years where Nebel headed both the girls and boys teams, his boys amassed an overall record of 45-9. His boys won 3 regular season Gwinnett County titles, and appeared in 3 consecutive county championship games, winning 2 of them.
Nebel currently resides in Buford, GA, where he is married to his wife Debbie. The couple has 2 daughters, Grace (9 years old) and Addison (2 years old).
In addition to winning the Georgia State Championship in 2005, Collins High finished the 2004-05 season ranked fifth nationally and first in the southeast region by USA Today. This 3 year run culminated in 2006-2007 with an undefeated season, a Georgia State Championship, and ranked first nationally by USA Today, ESPN, and Sports Illustrated.
